i cant see anything there saying what ur rate is, just make sure in game all you BUM's type 'rate 20000' in console.. if you have low rates, like 10000 or under you can be classed as a hacker..

lol u have two problems.rate isnt the only one to set u need to change cmdrate from 30 to 80 or 101 and cl_updaterate the same.this is what ive heard many other people use and ive heard rudey being called a rate whore 5 or 6 times in wars for having them both set at 20

and as u can seeim not even setting the rate ffs..so whatever its running at is being negotiated automatically with the server....tbh u lot whine too much about this shit. I've been playing for like 3 years and I've never dabbled with this shit...or worried about other ppls rates. TBH its a bullshit excuse for dying, like "im on the phone".

I appreciate there are probably SOME configs which are dodgy and might give an advantage....but fs, given the config ive got and the 128k connection, i think u r all mad.

preferably i think ppl should not touch the configs and only change what can be done in the cs menus (note not console)

the only think i was 'ranting' on about is the rate, all [or most] of you know that the lower the rate the harder the person is to hit for the opposition,

i mean this is all new to me aswell, a while ago i was playing on Jags server and and i met a mate from 1.5 called RAge [some may remeber] and i was doind well so a question popted up, he asked what my rate was so i told him it was 15000 [ which is my defult] but he told me that i was rate hacking, at first i couldnt understand what he was on about as it was my defult rate but then he explaind to me and told me that the correct rate for anyone should be 20000 [as set by ED]

so im still a bit baffled by it but now i use 20000, so ras i suggest u change it, it not like it will do any major changes appart from u will be easier to hit.

this only poped up yesterday because there were numerous occasion when i should have killed you but fireing like 7 shots at point blank but only managed to hit u once or twice.

Hmmm VERY odd .. i appear to have 2 configs ... one has all that stuff in your config but I also have anotehr config in the folder above .... somethingvery odd going on.

for some reason (dunno why, never copied anything over/changed anything in my config within windows) I have -

F:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\dave-is-skill@chimpzilla.co.uk\counter-strike\cstrike\config.cfg (which is the more comprehensive one)

and

F:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\dave-is-skill@chimpzilla.co.uk\counter-strike\config.cfg
(which is missing loads of stuff)

it is using defult but according to ED defult is not right, every1 should have a rate of 20000...so change it

a Rate under 10000 is a bit dodgy unless your on a 486 with a 13.3modem lol. 15000 is fine, i personally use 18000, and the others set at 80. works good for me. Any settings under or at 10000, 20, 20 are dodgy,

and to clarify what those rates do, makes you look like your lagging really badly, so peeps cant hit you, and you personally are fine. I check peoples rates whenever i go onto a server to check theres no tits on with that.

i jus wanna say rates do have a big difference. i never use to take much notice of them untill some dude come on my server n we were playin 1on1 and he was completly owning me. then i check his rates and they were like 7500 or somethink and then when he changed them the scores evened out rapidly. Soo that was my own lil personal experience which showed me. lol

Mine are set to 20000 and my update etc is set to 60...someone told me to change it to 100 or woteva then wen i bought a mic it was cuttin up wile i was speaking and that was the prob. (if ne1 eva has that prob)

my rate is set at 20,000 but thats becuase someone advised me that it was best for 2mb dsl ... before i had 2mb (512kb) I was advised a diff value around 12,000

I also had cl_updaterate & cl_cmdrate set at 85 but I am gonna give 101 a whirl for a while as I have seen that number on a few diff sites.

well...im pretty sure some ppl round here have their facts fucked. Can some one tell me how to check what the rate is actually set at?....assuming that its not in the config file...presumably you can type something in console...

I tried "rate" but that just gives out 5000, which I think is the servers rate, not me (the client).

cl_rate

and itll tell u what theyre at, then type numbers i.e.

cl_updaterate 20000 to set it as 20000

yea u can check it by typing rate. 5000 is way to low...i get ur point tho rascal its perthetic that u have to change them from default..
