No game which uses steam will ever be good...

What insecure idiot invented the bloody thing anyway, some prick who thinks everyones out to copy his game illegally and wants to force everyone to pay for fast internet connections and refuses to mend the ridiculous number of problems with the game and even if it does work has fucking long loading times and slows down ur computer 4 ages even after its failed to run.

I could go on...

steam is being used as a copyright protection yes. a lot of people had gacquired copies of the game, they have now been banned from using steam as a few of us know. I dont see steam as a problem anymore tbh, maybe the loading times arent great but hey, you get used to it. all the bugs from the game will be sorted eventually.
it slows down your computer jaco because of the amount of memory that it uses while playing the game, i.e. graphics details, etc.

oh and, there is such a thing about editing your posts

i deleted the other 2 comments because they were pointless

lol ok,thnx... i no, steam isnt that bad, i just get pissed off when i spend the whole night dling hl2 thru it and then it refuses 2 wrk

And if anyone could help me get hl2 to work i would be eternally gratefull.

Comes up with Source: Fatal Error, "Connection to steam servers lost, cannot aquire game files" around the point when you get to the main menu & crashes.

I have all my firewalls turned off and the internet connection wrks fine

Reinstall everything ... start of with a hdd format and then a fresh OS install then get latests updates and gfx drivers and then install steam and HL2

Other then that I'd just keep trying as that *sounds* like a connection error as in the steam servers are down/overloaded, but I have had no such problems at all this week (or for ages, think last time was the day hl2 was activated but a retry and I was in)....

one possible problem could be bad routing from you/your ISP to steam servers, one of the hops on your route to them could be a bit flakey causing you to have troubles along that path

lol thanks bren... i woz afraid i mite have to reformat everything, but ive been putting it off for a while and will probably do my computer good with all the bloody adware i cant get rid of on it. Now i just have to find out where all my windows XP disks have gone
