ok, granted I havnt seen this thing running...although I cant help thinking the 2 screen thing is just a bit gimicky.....but...seriously, it looks like an 80s version of a futuristic pocket etchasketch.

not exactly awe inspiring. (like the PSP

I find it awe inspiring imo and developers do too! (where loads have signed up for development)...

also imo the dual screens is far from gimicky: in the E3 videos (and other magazine reports) ALL of the developers said that it looks fantastic and that the dual screen capabilities and functions (remember one of them, the lower one, has touch screen functions) is what really caught their attention and enabled them to utilise vast amounts of interaction and HCI operations so for them too it is far from gimicky as they can do things impossible to do on any other gaming device ever

From my experience it is great, fantastic for first person shooters (like using a mouse) and driving games

Give it a few years and every console will have touch screen capabilities (be it on a built in screen or on a controller) as everything nintendo do others copy lol, they invented the d-pad (directional pad), the analogue stick (that every console has now), memory cards and other things... if it wasnt for them Sony wouldnt have gone into making the Playstation which would've been just been an addon/expansion for the SNES and a future product

As for the etchasketch bit if you remember back to the 80s around half of Nintendo's handheld/portable systems had dual screens in their game&watch series of handhelds (so for them its nothing new)

Note not having a go or anything

P.S. dont like the sound of the battery life on the PSP and its loading times for a portable device or the fact that its case design (altho it does look very very nice and sleek) will and DOES (according to ppl who have them already) get scratched very easily even in protective cases

... hope by the time I get one there will be protective film stick on things like for PDAs)

Stilltime will tell once I get my grubby mits on one!

IMO they are too different to compare against each other ... the only thing similar about them is that they are both portable gaming devices

my point still stands...i mean the DS and Zelda look the bloody same lol! Big flat and pseudo silver.

(Im not having a go either...i just sit in the Sony camp - and used to be in the sega camp before that..although I had all the nintendos at some point inc. neo geo import......sadly sold ages for no money)

I agree.. the PSP imo is a much more sleek design but for me its not all about aesthetics and theres the fact that the DS couldnt have been designed that much differently to accomodate the dual screens

... if you dont like silver theres an all black one comming out in 2005 and there are expected to be numerous different colours and specials (like the GBA SP).

P.S. there is a screen protector film out for the PSP so thats good news (altho that wont protect the controll area)
