Basically any tips on which programs to use, best settings for things like Fraps ( mines lags like a monkey!!), anythign you can think of really, alot of people wana do this but havent a clue how. heres a few tips from me :

use GameCam and Microsoft Movie Maker 2 (both downloadable off the net) if you have XP, as i have ME i use the normal record funciton in sonsole and a file convertor program to turn it into a mpeg.

when u say lags what do you mean? (i mean as in how bad not as in what do you literally mean by lags)

as in it sends my game into the kinda lag u get wen ur ping is about 800+

whats your spec? HL/CS doesnt lag at all on my systems (ranging from an xp2600 down to a 2100 with a dash of p4 faster then the xp's with 512mb of ram in all of them)

It does drop the fps but I set it to 30 or even 20 and its smooth as.... if you have the option set it to record at 1/2 resolution and try that (also set it to record no sound)

well ive got a 2500 wid 512mb of ram....il try GameCam ina min and see whether that lags

ok... also if you havent tried it yet record at 1/2 res (setting in fraps if its there) without sound (unless you really need it and arent adding your own audio - music/sfx etc)

How I do any game videos is (roughly) as follows (this is the speedy version) -

- launch fraps then game
- record footage
- encode/compress with dr divx

That is the very fast method I use but not very often, other times (brief description) I'll record loads of footage, edit, create/edit the final video in Pinnacle Studio (faster/more basic) or Premier, encode final vid then encode/compress final vid for distro etc...

Yea i jus tried Fraps with half resolution and it still went well laggy. Il try GameCam now and get back to ya

Does ne1 have the link to the site i swear sum1 posted it into the chatbox earlier but it doesnt seem to be there now

rite well i got a 3.2ghx and 512DDR ram, 128mb graphics, and its laggy as, i shall test some more, thanks for the help neways bren, i just get bord of waiting for files to convert and sometimes corrupting

iv looked at GameCam and i cant seem to find where it saves the files. looks like il have to play around with it wen im in the mood. cant b bothad to muck around with it right now

fraps doesnt work that great for some games, especially some newer ones but (for me anyway) works ok for HL... far easier then recording demos thru the game

But i guess it isnt for everyone
