ok having some fooked up error.. when i get to a certain point in the game (near the start) and it starts to load new section my hl2 crashes and i get an error message saying 'The Instruction at 0x####### referenced memory at 0x#######. The memory could not be 'read'
i've checked all the support forums etc but there are only helps for hl1 and the forums are so long cant read it all... does ANYONE know what i can do.. as i havnt been able to play hl2 since and im gonna cry
I defragged my hard drive.. didnt work.. (i have hl2 dvd btw if that makes any difference)

It's like theres a party in my mouth, and everyones throwing up.

That may not be an error with HL2 as such, it could be your installation of the program or that your pc is fucking up ... sounds like a bad mem dump ... if you havent already try re installing it totally

You can often get errors like that when your system runs out of available memory .. try killing of as many processes as possible prior to running hl2 and increasing your virtual memory

Other then that try testing your memory using http://www.memtest86.com/

Maybe try the error msg in google .. there may be similar ppl/apps/systems with the same error msg (albeit for diff applications/situations) but they might have some fix infos

P.S. just build a new PC tbh

Also right click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage' ... check the 'Event Viewer' > 'Application' > and look for yellow '!' marks & red X's ... (altho check other sections too and other warnings)

Yer....looks like thats it...update steam...then go to Steam news page...run the verification tool from the link there.

Also if you feel its a SP2 problem it could be becuase of anotehr program you have installed (running/running in the background) ... when I first went to sp2 I got a similar message when I right clicked (explorer.exe would kick up shit) due to having the shell exensions for Dr.Divx .. quick reg edit later to remove that shellx and all was a-o-k! Its worth while googling your problem as you may well stumble across the required fix

i no this is going totally off the subject (Sorry) but jus to add...
I installed sp2 and since when ever i try and open steam if says temporarily unavailable and the only way to get it to open is to connect to a server using HLSW, then its fine and i can get into all of the steam App. :S weird
