I have some questions about this svchost.exe, and I'd be greatful if you could provide some answers for me -

1) What is it?
2) What does it do?
3) Why have I got like 8 svchost.exe's running when I open Task Manager?
4) Is that a bad thing?
5) If so, how do I get it to bugger off?
6) It seems to use up network and bandwith, so how do I get to stop?

svchost is the 'service host' i.e. the process your machine uses to launch other processes. It's meant to be there. Anything that executes as System (permissions) that requires a parent process will have an associated svchost.

Killing it would be bad. www.sysinternals.com has a tool called process explorer. It can show you the path to each running executable, which helps identify what it is. svchost should be in c:\windows\system32

lol dont say that.. i had someone on irc asking about what process they could kill.. I said as a joke kill explorer.exe and System idle process. A min or so later they vanished from irc to only come back and say that somethign went wrong when they killed those processes.
